Students' Perception of YouTube as Independent Learning Media in English Department of Mulawarman University
This study aims to know students’ perception of using YouTube as a learning media for independent learning, their difficulties they faced in using YouTube as a learning media, and how they overcome them. It is a mixed-method study using questionnaire and interview. To analyzed the data from the questionnaire the researcher used mean score and to analyze the interview using flow model analysis from Miles and Huberman (1994). The participants of this research are 61 students in the English Department – at Mulawarman University. The questionnaire was used to find out the students’ perception level. The finding of this study showed that the students had a positive perception toward the use of YouTube for Independent learning media. The researcher also found that there were difficulties that they faced, such as ineffective time management, lack of equipment or devices, adaptability struggle, advertisement cannot be skipped, network problems, distraction, subtitles, and absence of quick response.
