This study has the objectives to examine and analyze the impact of ownership structure (institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and foreign ownership) on the corporate cash holdings. Fixed effect model of panel data is applied to explore a sample of 92 companies publicly listed on the IDX80 Index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the observation period from 2015 to 2019. The results show evidence that each ownership structure significantly affect cash holdings. The results report a negative effect of institutional ownership on cash holdings. This finding indicates that the presence of institutional shareholders is proven to reduce the level of cash holdings. This has an implication that managers decide to hold less cash and align their interests with those of institutional shareholders. Moreover, the results report a positive effect of managerial ownership on cash holdings, as well as a positive effect of foreign ownership on cash holdings. The findings implies that if the ownership of managements continue to increase, managers are more likely to accumulate more cash and might use it for their own interests. Increasing foreign ownership has an indication that foreign shareholders are likely to be the subject to asymmetric information and they mostly demand the companies to hold more cash, so the companies do not experience financial difficulties.
