This research deals with the racial discrimination toward African-American people as seen in the Green Book film. This research aims to identify the classification of racial discrimination toward African-American people and also to describe how racial discrimination acts are portrayed toward African-American people. This research uses the theory of racial discrimination by Fred L. Pincus. Individual discrimination, institutional discrimination, and structural discrimination that are used to identify the classification of racial discrimination. This research is also using the theory of character and characterization by Shlomith R. Kenan to describe the way racial discrimination acts portrayed toward African-American people. This research uses the qualitative method as the research method. This research shows that there are several racial discriminations toward African-American people in the film. The racial discrimination portrayed in the film is in the form of individual discrimination, institutional discrimination, and structural discrimination toward African-American people. Meanwhile, several characters in the film show acts of racial discrimination against African-American people that portrayed indirectly, such as conversations between the characters that insult the African-American people. Racial discrimination is also described in the film through the actions of the characters, such as Dr. Shirley who was ganged up by white people, prohibition for African-American people to enter certain places, and the prejudice that happens against Dr. Shirley as an African-American person. This research proposes to increase people's awareness about the negative impacts of racial discrimination toward particular races that can occur in society.
