The Liberal Feminism Through Female Characters in Bridgerton Film Series
Bridgerton film series is about the life and romance of British nobles in the 18th century. Through that background, the author points out the most important issues the nobles had to deal with at that time. This research aims to describe how liberal feminism is shown through female characters in Bridgerton film series. The researcher analyzed this film using the descriptive qualitative method and liberal feminism as the main theory. The result showed three out of four liberal feminism forms. First, equal education; unlike the noble women in that era, Eloise Bridgerton has a different way of thinking that was not interested in the idea of the wedding season and She preferred to think about continuing to a university. Second, equal liberty, Daphne Bridgerton did a rebellious act by rejecting the arranged marriage because she didn’t love lord Berbrooke. Last, equal rights, Eloise Bridgerton notices a woman named Lady Whistledown got the right to write and publish her work but under a false name because she was a woman. In conclusion, the feminist movement carrying the idea that women have the same potential and abilities as men, changes by stereotypes related to the characteristics of women being considered weak, incompetent, and not independent, and wants to increase the role of women in various fields. The most widely seen depiction is the movement to get an equal education, rights, and liberty.
