English Students' Perceptions of Using YouTube as Tool in Learning Listening at English Department of Mulawarman University

This study was aimed to know the students’ perception of using YouTube as a Tool in Learning Listening. This study used mix method design. The data were collected by using two types of instruments: questionnaire and interview guide. The subjects were class A and C 2018 at English Department. The questionnaire was used to find out the 40 students’ perception level of using YouTube in Learning Listening. The finding of this study showed that the students had positive perception of using YouTube as Tool in Learning Listening. The mean score of the questionnaire was 46 and was defined as the students had positive perception toward the use of YouTube in Learning Listening. The student had different ideal tool and preference, some of them mostly agreed that YouTube is ideal tool in their learning process. The students also obtained more vocabulary with the use of YouTube and it helped them to understand in depth about the topic they learn in the Listening class. The students felt comfortable with the use of YouTube in the class because it accessible. The students believed that the used of YouTube can help improve their Listening skill. To improve listening skills every student has a preference for a different YouTube show such as songs, Vlogs, Podcast, and Variety show. The researcher also found that there are problems of using YouTube in classroom such as internet connection, advertisement, electricity, availability of video and difficulty managing time during the learning process.
