Analysis of lexical meaning on Linkin Park's songs
This study analyses lexical meaning theory by Kreidler in selected songs of Linkin Park from different album. This study analysed song lyrics to find the lexical relations. This study also aims to determine the most dominant types of lexical relations of the five songs lyrics of Linkin Park’s which were taken from different album entitled, Shadow of the day, The Messenger, Leave out all the rest, Iridescent, and "My December". By using the Kreidler’s theory of lexical relations. This study used descriptive qualitative method and a meaning approach. The result showed that four types from six types of lexical relations namely synonym, antonym, homonymy, and hyponym were employed in the selected songs of Linkin Park. The most dominant type is a hyponym. Otherwise, polysemy and ambiguity were not found in the selected songs of Linkin Park, because those types of lexical relations did not line with the motives that Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda want to convey in their song lyrics.
