This research aimed to identify the types of flouting maxims found in the 22 Jump Street movie and what factors contribute to flouting maxims happening in the movie. The movie talked about the story of a police duo, Schmidt and Jenko, who both go undercover as college students to find the drug supplier in the college. This research used Grice’s Cooperative Principle theory to analyze the flouting maxims in the main character’s utterances and find the factors that contribute to flouting maxims in the movie. The data taken from this movie are from the main character’s dialogue containing flouting maxims. Based on the finding, the researcher found that four flouting maxims were flouted, and several factors that contribute to flouting maxims happen in the movie.
