KARTIKA, NUR HELIDA. 2022. Students’ and Teachers’ Perception of Technology Acceptance Model and Mobile Technology Learning Impact in English as a Foreign Language Classroom (under supervisor of Prof. Susilo, M.Pd and Dr Iwan Setiawan, M.Pd). Samarinda: Unpublished Thesis. Mulawarman University
Mobile technology offers indisputable advantages in the teaching and learning process. In this mixed-method research, the researcher proposed a comprehensive analysis of the Indonesian EFL teachers' and students’ perceptions of mobile technology impact and the use intercorrelated with factors such as gender, age, internet connection and total gadget. Online survey questionnaires and semistructured interviews were conducted to investigate Secondary English teachers' and students' perceptions of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Mobile Technology Impact (MTI). T-test, bivariate correlation, CFA, SEM and thematic analysis were employed to investigate the gaps and correlation between variables using data from 150 English teachers and 215 secondary students in Indonesia. Results showed that TAM’s construct directly influenced MTI’s construct for both group participants. In addition, female and male students shared the same perception of TAM and MTI except for promoting collaborative learning; female students showed more positive perceptions towards collaborative learning using mobile technology than male students. There was also a correlation between students’ age and their perception of collaborative learning, where senior students are more engaged in collaborative work utilising mobile technology than junior students. Meanwhile, all teacher participants shared the same perception related to TAM and MTI regarding all the factors. It was also found that promoting collaborative learning was the least significant measured item in both SEM models. Based on these findings, the researcher proposed several study implications for integrating mobile devices in English classrooms.
