In general, a patriarchal system that is too strong in society often creates a lot of stigma against women. Many women are considered inferior and marginalized. In some cases, women are often only seen as objects, including in the work, social, political, and even in the family. As a result, women do not have the same opportunities as men in many aspects of life. For this reason, several writers are interested in writing fiction based on the phenomenon of the patriarchal system as an idea. That is why the application of the patriarchal system is also found in many literary works. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the portrait of patriarchy that occurred in the novel We Shall See the Sky Sparkling written by Susana Aikin, and how Lily breaks the patriarchal system. In this research, the researchers used patriarchal theory by Johnson. In addition, the researcher used qualitative descriptive methods and character and characterization theory to describe how Lily breaks the patriarchal system. The results of the research showed that in the novel, the patriarchal form is described consists of two forms. Namely male-dominated and male-identified which portrait in indirect presentation through speech. In this case, male domination is depicted in Lily's family where the position of man creates higher power than women. Meanwhile, male identification is also depicted through Lily's father, who always tries to control Lily's life. Furthermore, Lily as a female character through indirect presentations tries to break the patriarchal system that occurs in her family. Lily showed a brave attitude to reject her father's decision against her.
