Difret is a film written and directed by Zeresenay Berhana Mehari andreleased in 2014. This film is based on a true story about a female lawyer namedMeaza who struggles to fight discrimination and tries to help women in Ethiopiaget justice through legal rights. This research discusses the personality of Meazaand the portrayal of liberal feminism values in the Difret film. In this research, theresearcher uses the theory of characterization theory by Bogss and Patrie andliberal feminism values by Wollstonecraft, Mill, and Taylor. The researcher usesqualitative research by Tracy and data analysis by Miles, Huberman, and Saldanafor the film. The findings of this research showed three aspects of liberal feminism portrayed in the film, namely equal education, equal liberty, andsuffrage. Those aspects are portrayed through the personality of Meaza whenshestruggles to help women in Ethiopia get justice by being intelligent to get anequal education, hard-working and independent to get equal liberty. Also, care, determined, and brave are included in getting suffrage.
