This study discusses the ways Gracie Hart’s character represents liberal feminism and its characterizations in Miss Congeniality (2000) film. There are two theories applied in this study such as liberal feminism by Tong and indirect characterization by Petrie and Boggs. The research design of this study was qualitative research. Scenes and conversations appeared as the data that were taken from Miss Congeniality (2000) film. The result of this study shows that Gracie Hart as the main character in Miss Congeniality (2000) film represents liberal feminism through two aspects of equality: liberty and rights. These types of liberal feminism are represented by Gracie’s characterizations of her direct and other characters’ dialogues, internal actions, external actions, choice of name, and apparance. Based on this result, Gracie’s character can be seen as the representation of liberal feminism itself since throughout the film, her actions of: (1) pursuing her own desires; (2) being partnered with men in working environment; and (3) accessing equal economic opportunities as men are meant to gain liberation as a woman in a patriarchal society.
