REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS PERFORMED BY TEACHER IN HYBRID(ONLINE-OFFLINE) ENGLISH LEARNING ON SMP N 16 SAMARINDA

The present study aimed to analysed the kinds of rewards and punishments and to describe how the teacher implement the rewards and punishment in hybrid(online-offline) class. The design of this study was a qualitative research design with multiple case study. The research participants of this study were 2 teachers of SMP N 16 Samarinda. In this study, the researcher used three instruments to collect the data. The instruments were the interview protocol, observation guide and recording device. The results of the instruments were carried out interactively and continued until they were completed, so that the data was saturated by data reduction, data display, and concluding the data. The first finding showed that the participants of this study which is the teachers used 2 kinds of techniques: Rewards and punishments which also categorized as for rewards, social reinforcer such as giving praise such as good, excellent, and great, token reinforcer such as giving stars on students’ sheet and emoji and for
punishments, aversive action such as when a student isn't paying attention, the teacher may ask a question and it will drew the students attention, aversive stimuli, non verbal cues like a facial expression . It was shown The findings of this study revealed that introducing reward and punishment helped to improve the classroom environment for both teachers and students.
