Teaching Simple Present Tense using Vlog (A Quasi-Experimental Research at The Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda Seberang)
The research aimed to figure out the significant difference between the students’ understanding towards simple present tense after being taught by using Vlog and those who are taught by using their English textbook at school. The method that is used in this research is quasi-experimental research. The quasi-experimental research was designed by using two classes which were taught with different methods. The experimental class was taught about daily routine in the form of simple present tense by using Vlog and the control class was taught similar material by using an English textbook. In this research, the population came from two classes in the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda that consists of 48 students. The research was conducted through the following procedures: administering pre-test, giving treatment and administering post-test. The data analyzed in this research was obtained by calculating and analyzing through the T-test formula by using SPSS IBM 23 version. According to the result, the mean score from post-test in experimental class is 89.37, which means higher than the mean score from post-test in control class with the value of 72.5. The results of independent samples t-test calculation using IBM SPSS 23 version showed that the significance t value sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 which means lower than t table 0.05. If the t value is lower than the t-table, it indicates that H_a is accepted and H_0 is rejected. As the result, the researcher found out that the use of Vlog in teaching Simple Present Tense increase students’ understanding.
