THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERTEXTUALITY IN TEACHINGNARRATIVE TEXT TO DEVELOP STUDENTS’ UNDERSTANDING

This research investigated the use intertextuality in teaching reading narrativetext in Junior High School 1 Bontang. This research talks about the teachers’ implementation intertextuality in teaching reading narrative text in her classroompractice by using the theory of Roberts S. Miola. This research used a case studyqualitative research design. The researcher took six students of nine gradeinJunior High School 1 Bontang batch 2020/2021 as the purposive sampling.Theresearcher conducted the classroom observations and interview. The result showed that the teacher used concept of intertextuality in teachingand learning activity. Lutung Kasarung story and Beauty and Beast story are usedby the teacher in teaching reading narrative text in her class, it is indicate that Source, Revision, Translation, Quotation, Genre, Convention are types of intertextuality that the researcher found in both of the story. While the other typeresearcher can not found Paralogue, was not found in the text that the teacher used.For the activity in her class the teacher used all classification by Robert .SMiola in her class practices. It showed that the teacher used two stories toseeksimilarities from two stories. It is categorized as Source. For Convention was usedto identify the characters in the story. While reading the text, translation was usedto learn new vocab from text. Genre was practiced reading activities to findingexplicit and implicit massages from the text. And also for Quotation takenfromimportant lines of the main characters. The teacher informed the students about Revision so the students can aware of the original from the story. However, theteacher did not introduce the Paralogue aspect to students due to her lackof understanding toward the practice of Paralogue in the stories. Therefore, it is concluded that intertextuality makes the students are awarewith the aspect of a story. Further studies related to the practice of Intertextualityare suggested as this study is lack of detail description the implementationof Intertextualiy in teaching reading.
