Relationship Between Human and Animal in Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson Through Ecocriticism
This research focuses on the human and animal relationship in three selected poems by Emily Dickinson. The poems are I Have a Bird in Spring, A Bird came down the Walk, and "Hope" is the thing with feathers. This study uses the ecocriticism theory from Greg Garrard and qualitative method research. The data of this research are collected from the line of the poems that contain animal aspects. The data of this research was analyzed using the element of poetry and the ecocriticism theory by Greg Garrard especially the element of animal. This element has two types. The first type is domestic animal and cyborg. The second type is wild animal and biodiversity. Both these types emphasize the balanced relationship between humans and animals. This research results that these poems contain imagery and figurative language as the element of poetry. These three poems are included to the second type of Greg Garrard’s element of animal. The type is wild animal and biodiversity. This type emphasizes the same right between human and wild animal. In these three poems, that wild animal is bird. From the findings, it can be concluded that the big theme of these poems are about the balanced relationship between humans and animals. This research aims to explain the relationship between humans and animals in the three selected poems of Emily Dickinson.
