The Personality of the Main Character in The Devil All the Time Film
Psychoanalysis is a theory used to analyze the human psyche where the behavior occurs due to the mindset. One that can be influenced is the human personality which is described through literary works such as a film. The purpose of this study is to find out the main character's personality was portrayed in The Devil All the Time film. The researcher used qualitative methods to collect the data. In the analysis, the researcher used Kenan’s characterization theory and Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The data collection in this study were direct presentation and indirect presentation. The results of this study indicated that there were three aspects of personality structure found in The Devil All the Time film consists of the Id has a role in fulfilling the inner satisfaction to get pleasure, the ego plays a role in controlling the inner satisfaction by the id and prioritizes reality, and the superego focused on morality where it comes from parental teachings and norms that exist in society. These three aspects could convey the mind and behavior to regulate the steps before making a decision taken by Arvin Russell as the main character in the film. The researcher conclusion is that Arvin Russell’s superego could dominates his id and ego to solve almost all of his problems.
