In this research, the researcher analyzed one character through binary oppositions in which arising the opposite views of the previously fixed views. The findings show that there are four contradictory characteristics of Margaretha. Previously, Margaretha was described as a timid, dependent, bridled, and bad woman. After being deconstructed, Margaretha is a character who is brave to deal with the reality of her life. Furthermore, Margaretha is an independent woman because she can wander alone. Margaretha is also self-determined for leaving her abusive husband. And it turns out that Margaretha is a good woman because of what she does for the people around her. Hence it can be implied that deconstruction theory provides room for the readers to interpret literary work from different points.
