The objectives of this present study were to explored the types of politeness strategy used by male and female EFL tutors and also investigated the dominant of politeness strategy used by male and female English tutor at Slikey English Course Samarinda. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research and source ofthe data was obtained from the male and female English tutor utterances during in the teaching-learning process. Technique of collecting data, the researcher making observation and recording videos then writing script from the video’s observation. The data were analyzed by several steps such as, data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion. The finding showed three types of politeness strategy used by male and female English tutor and showed one dominant sub-strategy. The strategies were positive politeness, negative politeness, off-record and the dominantsub-strategy was question, hedge. Positive politeness in classroom context used by tutor to consider the positive face of the student, negative politeness which was used to deliver utterances politely, off-record was used to avoid students’ positive face.
