LISTENING STRATEGIES USED BY STUDENTS AT MAN 1 SAMARINDA IN LEARNING ENGLISH IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022
Having a good listening is one of challenges that encountered by many learners in the school. Learners may use some strategies to help them in learning English Therefore, the purposes of this study were : (1) to find out the listening strategies used by the students and (2) to find out the listening strategy that commonly used by the students. The design of this study was quantitative. The population of this study was the eleventh students at MAN 1 Samarinda and the researcher took 35 students as the sample. The instrument of this study was questionnaire.The use of strategy in listening is significant. The results of this quantitative study showed that the students at MAN 1 Samarinda used three listening strategies in their learning English which consisted of: Metacognitive Strategy (72,8%), Cognitive strategy (70,9%), and Socio-Affective strategy (61,4%). Therefore, the most commonly listening startegy used by the students was Metacognitive strategy (72,8%) which mean, most of students at MAN 1 Samarinda commonly used is metacognitive strategy for their listening strategy. If the students apply strategy in their listening process, they can perform their listening activity better and well-structured. Moreover, the students can also learn how to improve themselves through the use of appropriate strategy.
