The purposes of this study were to find out the level of readiness for learner autonomy of English Department students, and to find out whether there is a significant different on their level of readiness between male and female students. The design of this study was a survey design within quantitative approach. The data were collected using questionnaire developed by Lin & Reinders (2017) to measure their readiness for learner autonomy. The sample of this study was the second, fourth and sixth semester students of academic year 2018/2019, by total of 179 participants. Furthermore, the data from this study were analyzed with help from SPSS 25 application to find the mean score and the differences between the gender. The study revealed the following findings: 1) The researcher found that English Department students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Mulawarman University’s level of readiness for autonomy were at “approaching autonomy”. In more detail, second, fourth and sixth semester students are psychologically, technically and behaviorally coming nearer to be ready to learner autonomy; 2) The researcher also found that there was no difference on the level for autonomy with regard to their gender. English Department students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Mulawarman University as a whole or divided based on their gender, their level of readiness for learner autonomy is still classified as approaching autonomy with the mean score at M = 3.5, regarding to the criteria proposed by Lin and Reinders (2017).
