The purposes of this study were to know the types of idiomatic expressions by Adam Makkai’s theory and the meaning of idiomatic expressions in Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack Lyrics by qualitative content analysis study. The source of data was obtained through the transcripts of 18 songs Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack lyrics with codification procedures. The researcher uses data collection procedures by transcribing, reading, and identifying. The researcher also used content analysis for the data analysis technique.
What makes this study different from several previous studies is that in this study the researcher used codification procedures for organizing the text of the transcripts and discovering patterns within the organizational structures. Where in previous studies the codification procedure was not used as a research method for idiom analysis. The researcher used verbal exchange coding from literary and language method
This study revealed the following findings: it was found that the researcher found 69 idioms that contain 36 phrasal verbs idioms, 17 Tourneur idioms, 7 irreversible binominal idioms, 7 phrasal compound idioms, 1 incorporating idiom, and 1 pseudo idiom. The researcher found the conclusion about the meaning by finding each one by one that mostly represents faith, sorrow, regret, memories, pain, dream, wishes love in the lyrics.
