This study examines the kinds of thematic development patterns and the structure of thematic development patterns found in The Jakarta Post headlines news articles. Thematic development is a way of developing themes and rhemes in clauses. The theme of a clause can be picked up or repeated a meaning from preceding theme and rheme This study used descriptive qualitative by content analysis approach. The research object of this study was 30 headline news articles by The Jakarta Post newspaper. In this study, the writer acted as the key instrument in analyzing the data.
The findings of this study showed that all articles had thematic development patterns found in the The Jakarta Post. There were 148 (46,11%) constant theme patterns, 119 (37,03%) zig zag linear paterns and 54 (16,82%) multiple theme patterns. According to all findings, the writer of The Jakarta Post newspaper are mostly applied constant theme pattern followed by zigzag pattern and multiple theme pattern.
