Experience of a Teacher in Using Short Stories to Teach English to the Students of SMAN 4 Samarinda.

The purpose of this study was to discover a teacher's experience using short stories to teach English to students at SMAN 4 Samarinda. This study was a case study. The participant was an English teacher of SMAN 4 Samarinda. The data were obtained through a semi-structured interview. The result showed that the teacher had implemented her prior knowledge about literature when she taught short stories to her students. Her experience covered the preparation in selecting the suitable short story material, the implementation of teaching in the classroom, the assessment, and solutions to her problem teaching. The teacher considered types of courses, types of students, and other related factors in selecting a short story to apply in the classroom. Next, the teacher selected the available short story material from a textbook or other literature book which best suited the criteria. Following that, she incorporated the short story into the activities in the classroom. Afterwards, she graded the students' work according to the scoring rubrics that were included in the lesson plans.
