THE STEPS IN PROCESS OF WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS IN SMP 17 AGUSTUS 1945 SAMARINDA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015

Abstrak
Writing is one of the language skills that should thought besides the other skills. Based on the curriculum of junior high school recommended by the government, there are some texts which have to be mastered by the students at junior high school. One of the text is Narrative Text. Narrative text is one kind of texts that must be learned by the students when they are studying English. It is a text that has purpose to entertain or amuse the reader or listener that contains for three basic generic structure. It is difficult enough for students, especially for the eighth grade students. The objective of the research is to find out the step students used in process of writing a narrative text by eight grade students of SMP 17 Agustus 1945 in Samarinda.The instrument that is used is by questionnaire and interview. Questionnaire contains 28 indicators from 4 steps based on Peter Carino (Pre-Writing, Drafting, Revision, and Editing). And the interview is about asking about 6 students about the reason students used that step in process of writing a narrative text. The subject in this research is the eight grade students of SMP 17 Agustus1945 in Samarinda in academic year 2014/2015.After distributing a questionnaire and doing interview, the researcher analyzing the data and found the result of her research by data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. There are 78.95% students used all indicators in Pre-Writing and there are 21.05% did not use some the indicators in Pre-Writing. There are 81.05% students used all indicators and there are 18.95% did not use some the indicators in Drafting. There are 40.15% students used all the indicators in Revising and 59.85% students did not use some the indicators in Revising. There are 75.4% students used all the indicators in Editing and there are 24.6% students did not use some the indicators in Editing. So that, the most step that students used is Drafting which is 81.05%.
