Academic reading is different from other forms of reading because it is complex and discipline-specific. It involves a challenging, sustained, and multifaceted process in which students are engaged with a range of reading strategies while reading in academic context. The aim of the present study was to investigate, (1) what frequency level of reading strategies is utilized by 2nd, 4th, and 6th semester at English Department Mulawarman University and (2) what reading strategies that are dominantly used by 2nd, 4th, and 6th semester students. The participants in this study were 45 students who were studying in 2020/2021 academic year. The questionnaires in this study were adopted from the Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) developed by Mokhtari and Sheorey, (2002) with a 5-point Likert scale. The present study applied descriptive statistics to analyze the data by utilizing SPSS version 25. The present study showed that participants employed reading strategies at either High or Moderate strategy usage. Second semester students reported to utilize reading strategies at Low usage level, while fourth and sixth semester students utilized reading strategies at High usage level. Next, the findings revealed that the most dominantly used reading strategies from the three sub-categories of reading strategies was Problem solving strategies. Problem Solving strategies were employed with an overall average score of 3.90 for second semester, 3.85 for fourth semester, and 3.81 for sixth semester. With all things considered, there was no statistically significant difference regarding the overall use of reading strategies pertaining to second, fourth, and sixth semester students.
