This research was aimed to find out the appropriateness of materials in English textbook “Bright an English” with the Basic Competencies Skills in curriculum used by students of ninth grade SMP Nasional 3 Bahasa Dharma Bhakti in Samarinda where this school is using Curriculum 2013 published by Erlangga.
The design of this research was qualitative. The object of this research was the English “Bright an English” which consists of 11 chapters. The data were collected by using evaluation checklist proposed by Basic Competencies Skills based on Curriculum 2013.
The results of data analysis showed that the materials in English Textbook “Bright an English” are meet the criteria of Basic Competencies Skill in curriculum 2013. From 11 learning objectives (BC) proposed by Basic Competencies Skills in curriculum 2013, 11 of it are covered in the English textbook. It can be concluded that the textbook is suitable to the standard established by the Minister of Education and Culture No. 24 in 2016, that is to make the students reach the functional level of literacy by using text – based teaching process and focused on the text.
