Using Google Classroom in Teaching English Online: The Perception of Secondary School Teachers in Sangatta
The aim of this research are to investigate how the teachers perceive the use of Google Classroom in teaching English online and to find out what aspects contribute to the teachers’ perception on the use of Google Classroom.
This research was case study using descriptive qualitative research. The participants were eight teachers teaching via online, the accessible platform, Google Classroom. In this type of the research, the researcher collected, classified, analyzed, and drew conclusion based on the data analysis. The data were observation, interview, and document.
The result showed that the teachers’ perception of Google Classroom was varied. There were some factors influencing the perception on the aspect of GC. In ease to access aspect, it was only found positive perception with the factors such as easily operated, easily installed and easily understood. However, in perceived usefulness, there were positive and negative perceptions. First, the factors influencing the positive perceptions such as consisting deadline submission, giving feedback, and sending and accepting assignment(s). Meanwhile, factors influencing the negative perception in perceived usefulness were students’ ability to interact using Google Classroom and less of control done by the teachers.
