TEACHERS' INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES ON EMERGENCY REMOTE TEACHING CLASSES DURING COVID 19 PANDEMIC AT SMK NEGERI 2 SAMARINDA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021

The main concern of this study was the teachers’ instructional strategies on Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) classes during Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, there is a challenge for all of the teachers inevitably have to apply and adapt to Emergency Remote Learning (ERL) to illustrate the education that took place during school closure, not online or virtual learning, since well-planned online learning experiences are substantially different from those that are delivered online in response to a crisis or catastrophe. This study aimed at discovering (1) The teacher’s instructional strategies on ERT classes during the COVID-19 pandemic at SMK Negeri 2 Samarinda, and (2) The extent of the instructional strategies helps the teachers in ERT classes. The research design is in qualitative approach. The populations of this study were two English teachers in SMKN 2 Samarinda
The result showed that (1) the instructional strategies that use in this ERT classes are voice and pitch management, formulating teaching strategies to enhance online class interaction, poverty and infrastructural neglected areas, teaching unit-think critically, practically, and creatively for online study success, flexible teaching and assessment policies, transforming a large-class lecture course to a smaller module in online classes, recording online lecture and providing self-learning material. (2) The finding showed that the instructional strategies help the teacher to make the students comfortable and understand in teaching unit-think critically, practically, creatively for online study success. Teachers also mentioned about importance of maintaining slow voice and practicing vocal functions.
