The instruments of this study consisted of two questionnaires: (1) Inventory for Beliefs about Translation (IBT), 24 statements of questionnaire with Likert scale choices, (2) Inventory for Translation as a Learning Strategy (ITLS) 28 statements of questionnaire with Likert scale choices.
The results of this study showed that the learners had positive view towards studying translation to improve their English and the learners used a wide variety of learning strategies related to translation when learning English. The Pearson Product formula is used to find out the coefficient of learners beliefs about translation and the used of translation as learning strategy. From the calculation of IBT and ITLS that were classified into sub-different variables, there are 15 scores of correlation value (r value), 6 of them were smaller than r table (0.202) and the others were higher than the r table. It can be concluded that 6 r value indicated that H0 was accepted and Ha was rejected which showed that there are no significant correlation between learners' beliefs and the use of translation as learning strategy while the other 9 r value indicated that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected which showed that there are significant correlation between learners' beliefs and the use of translation as learning strategy. Based on the result of this study, it can be concluded that learners' beliefs can influence the use of translation as learning strategy.
