The Effect of Using Animated Video on Students' Vocabulary Achievement at Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda in Academic Year 2019/2020

The objective of this research is to see if there is significant effect of using animated video on students’ vocabulary achievement at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda in academic year of 2019/2020. The design of this study was quasi-experimental. This sample were divided into two groups, they were an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was treated by using animated video, while the controlled group did not. During the treatments process, the students were asked to see some animated videos, which then the animated video was discussed in teaching learning process in the class. In conducting this research, 68 students were chosen as sample, equal numbers for each group. The result of pre-test between two groups was 54.92 for experimental group and 56.98 for control group. The computation showed that mean score of experimental group and control group were significantly different after six meetings. The result of post-test on the mean score between two groups were 71.17 for experimental group and 58.67 for control group. The result of post-test by using t-test computation by SPSS program shows the difference between two mean scores 0.009 < α 0.05 and t-value 3.013 > t-table 2.663. From the data above, it can be concluded that animated video can be used as an effective media to increase students’ vocabulary achievement. It is suggested that the school has to consider the use of animated video as a teaching media that can increase students’ vocabulary achievement.
