The Effect of Using Short Story on Vocabulary Achievement of Seventh Grade Student's of SMP Al - Khairiyah Samarinda

The objective of this study was to know the Effect of Using Short Story on Vocabulary Achievement of The Seventh Grade Students of SMP Al-Khairiyah Samarinda. The population on this study was the seventh grade students of SMP Al – Khairiyah Samarinda academic year 2019/2020. The total of population on this study was 120 students. The design of this study was pre - experimental design using quantitative. In this study the experimental design used One-Group Pretest-Posttest. The sample of this study was class VII-A SMP Al- Khairiyah Samarinda, in which the total of them are 31 Students and this research was just conducted in one class. From the data of students mean score, the researcher concluded that using Short Story with English subtitle can helped student know the significant difference in students’ vocabulary achievement before and after being taught using Short Story. The data of students mean score of vocabulary before being taught by using short story was fair because the mean of 31 students the total score showed 69.35 for pre test. And after getting treatment, the mean score of vocabulary after being taught by using short story was good because the mean of 31 students the total score showed 90.97. The increased mean score between pre and post test in pre - experimental group was about 21.62 percent. It was improved, with the t-test analysis that use by researcher, the result of t count is (10.8). By comparing the “t” that she has got in calculation t count = (10.8) and the value of “t” on the t score table t 0.05 = (2.042), it is known that t count is bigger than t table (t count > t table ) = (10.8>2.042). From the result of alternative hypothesis (Ha) that states there is significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement by using Short Story is acccepted, while the null hypothesis (Ho) that states there is no significant difference of student’s vocabulary achievement by using Short Story is rejected. Because there is a significant different using Short Story on vocabulary achievement is effective to teach english vocabulary to junior high school students, especially for seventh grade students of SMP Al- Khairiyah Samarinda.
