COMPARATIVE STUDY ON: STUDENTS’ WRITING NARRATIVE TAUGHT WITH TEXTBOOK VERSUS VIDEO AND THE TEACHER’S PERCEPTION TOWARD THE USE OF THE VIDEO

This research aims to compare the students writing narrative taught with printed textbook and video and the teacher’s perception toward the use of video in teaching narrative writing in SMAN 12 Samarinda. The research is conducted by using an experimental design. This research employs two groups; an experimental and control group. This is to see whether video have significant effect on students writing ability on narrative text. The experimental group is taught by using videos and the control group is given treatment by using students’ text book only. The subjects of this study are the ten grade Social Science students of SMAN 12 Samarinda in Academic Year 2019/2020. The data are analyzed by using SPSS 26. The result of the study shows that the students’ taught with video have slightly better achievement compare with the students taught with printed text. Under the size effect of 0.14, it is considered of weak differences effect.
At the end of this research, the researcher found that the teacher have positive perceptions toward the use of videos in teaching narrative. There are nine perceptions which are revealed in this research; students’ attention & concentration, interest, energize students for learning exercise, improve attitudes toward content and learning, build a connection with other students and instructor, increase understanding or comprehension, inspire and motivate students, and make learning fun.
