THE USE OF CARTOON STORY MAKER APPLICATION TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ NARRATIVE WRITING ACHIEVEMENT AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 MUARA JAWA

This study aims to investigate the improvement of students’ narrative writing achievement through the use of cartoon storymaker and what aspects of students narrative writing achievement are improved by using Cartoon Story Maker. This research was designed for a classroom action research. I used to collect the data were observation, and writing test. The subjects of the study were the Tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Muara Jawa in academic year 2018/2019. The result showed that sequence activities of implementing Cartoon Story Maker in learning and teaching narrative writing covers five phases, those are Orienting Students to Problems, Organize Student to Learn, Guiding Individual and Group Investigation, Develop and Present the Work, Analyze and Evaluate the Problem Solving Process. The finding showed that teacher could conduct all the teaching activities as designed in the lesson plan. Each task could be accomplished based on the allotted time in the lesson plan, which means that time limited for each stage of the lesson was appropriate and useful to manage the teaching activity. The study also showed that the use Cartoon story maker could increase students' activity in learning. It well indicated by the result of observation of students' activity. The students activity reached the average score 68% in cycle l, with category more than a half students did that students’ activation components. while in cycle 2 it reached average score 79% with category more than before that the students did students’ activation components in learning narrative writing; and average score 86% with category most of the students did students’ activation components in learning narrative writing in cycle 3. The use of cartoon story maker towards students' narrative writing was satisfying indicated by the progress of mean score of formative tests administered throughout the study. The mean score of narrative writing test gradually went up from 50.87 in the prior test, 62.34 in the cycle 1, 69.37 in the cycle. To take into account of the research finding that the use of cartoon story maker was able to overcome the difficulty of the students’ narrative writing. It is one of the alternative for the teachers to use the media cartoon story maker in teaching and learning. Therefore it is recommended for the researcher to carry out the study by using cartoon story maker not only for narrative writing, but also in other kinds of texts such as decriptive text, conversation text or the others texts.
