The main purpose of this research were: (1) to know the mastery of the passive voice of the twelfth Grader at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda, (2) to know the most mastered of cognitive level categories on the passive voice of the twelfth Grader at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda. This study employed descriptive quantitative research design. The research involved 87 students of the twelfth grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda. The research instrument of this study was a grammar test which was divided into three sections (completing sentence, changing active into passive sentence, and choosing the wrong word/phrases in a sentence). The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics analysis by Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 23.0 focusing on mean score of percentage. This study has found three findings, they are: first, the mean score of the passive voice mastery of the twelfth grader at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda was 47,54 (D or incompetent or very low). Second, based on four tenses types in each of three cognitive level categories which were tested, the most mastered of the tenses type was simple present tense with 20% in Category I (Identifying Category), 15% in Category II (Applying Category), and 11% in Category III (Analyzing Category). From those findings and discussion above, it was assumed that the lack of cognitive level mastery on passive voice will lead to poor passive voice test score. Then it can be concluded the students should to do self-study, by using the students’ module and learn at home with systematic learning material related to the topic, so the students can have more opportunities in comprehending passive voice and applying it in the four English basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
