The researcher analyzed the portrayal of gender stereotypes by examining masculine and feminine traits of Merida’s character based on Sandra L Bem theory of Sex Role Inventory. By measuring this female character traits we can see whether she fit into the gender stereotypes or not. Thereupon, the researcher clarified the stereotypes changes by investigating Merida’s stages of feminist identity based on Downing and Roush’s theory of Feminist Identity Development.
