The aims of this research are to find out the kinds of translation technique that used by Dini Pandia as the translator in translating a children novel titled ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ by Kate DiCamillo from English into Bahasa Indonesia and what technique that most frequently used by the translator in transferring the novel. This research used a descriptive qualitative research and the first data source are the first paragraph from each chapter in “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” by Kate DiCamillo and the second data source are the first paragraph from each chapter in “Perjalanan Ajaib Edward Tulane” that was translated by Dini Pandia. This research done by the researcher by using data collecting method theory by Mayring (2014). For trustworthiness, the researcher repeatedly checked the analysis result and consulted with certified translator.
The result of this research revealed that out of 7 techniques proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet (1995) only 5 techniques were employed by Dini Pandia in translating ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ namely, Borrowing, Literal Translation, Transposition, Equivalent, and Adaptation with Literal Translation proved as the most frequently used technique.
Based on the result above, the researcher then suggests the students or readers of this study to hone their translating skills in order to learn a language maximally. For the teachers or lecturers they are expected to be creative to make their Translation teaching and learning process more interesting by using novel as a material in class. For the future researchers who are going to make a similar research are expected to to conduct the study more comprehensive about translation techniques by analyzing every sentences in the novel or using another authentic material and translation technique theory proposed by another experts.
