Learning English has become essential in order to communicate with people globally. Considering the purpose of English for communication, speaking is the most dominant aspect in learning English, especially in schools. There are many factors that influence the students’ speaking performance. One of them is self-efficacy. The researcher focuses on the correlation between self-efficacy and speaking performance. This research involved the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Samarinda as the sample and population. The purposes of this study are; (1) To find out self-efficacy level of the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Samarinda, (2) To find out speaking performance of the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Samarinda, and (3) To find out if there is any correlation between self-efficacy level and speaking performance of the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Samarinda. The design of this study was quantitative with a correlational design. The instruments used in this study are Self-efficacy Questionnaire and Speaking Test. The result of the questionnaire shows that the average score of the students’ self-efficacy is 92.13 which is classified as high level. The result of speaking test shows that the average speaking score of the students is 56.18 which is classified as moderate. Thus, the result of data analysis shows that the Spearman’s correlation coefficient is 0.371 and significance value (ρ) is 0.018. Since the significance value (ρ) is lower than the significant level (0.018 < 0.05), this proves that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected which means that there is a significant correlation between the students’ self-efficacy and speaking performance. Therefore, the English teachers should help the students to encourage their self-efficacy as it is one of the factors that may help improving their speaking performance.
