The purposes of the study are: (1) to know the writing ability of the students who are taught by using picture series (2) to know the writing ability of the students who are taught without using picture series. (3) to find out the significant difference of the writing ability of the students who are taught by using picture series and those who are taught without using picture series. In this study, quasi-experimental design was used. The sample of the study consisted of two classes with the total of students were 60 students. There were two groups, control group (using conventional teaching method), and experimental group (using picture series as a media in teaching learning). The research instrument of this study was narrative writing test. To analyze the data, the Independent sample T-test was used on SPSS 20 Program to see the significant difference on students’ writing ability between the students who were taught by using picture series and those who were taught without using picture series. The result of this research revealed that the mean score of students in the control group was 42,91 then it increased to 60,55. Before the treatment, the score of the experimental group was 42,36 then it increased to 68,58 after the treatment. From the computation by using SPSS 20, it was found that the sig value was lower than sig level (0.00 < 0.05). It can be concluded that there was significant difference on the students’ writing ability between the students who were taught by using picture series and those who were taught without using picture series.
