In this research, the researcher discussed Deictic Expressions in Nasreddin’s Selected Stories. The research method applied in this thesis is descriptive analysis method, while the theory that used in this research is theory of deixis by Levinson. This research uses descriptive analysis method because the data of this research are limited to the words or phrases having deictic expressions in the book. In collecting the data, this study used documentation method. The technique of getting the data is reading and understanding the book of “Nasreddin, a Man with Thousands of Ideas” by identifying which words have deictic expressions that appear in each story of the book. The instrument of the study in finding the data is the researcher. The aims of this research are to identify the type of deixis, to describe the use of deixis and to explain the types of references that appear in the book of Nasreddin, a Man with Thousands of Ideas. To check the validity of the data, the researcher only uses investigator triangulation because the data is the text of the story. The result of the research shows that there are five types of deixis that appear in the twenty two stories of the book. The use of deixis in the book is reflected in narrative text and in dialog. The analysis also shows that the types of references can be anaphoric or cataphoric. It can be concluded that based on analyzed data, the most found type of deixis in this analysis is person deixis, the most found use of person deixis is in narrative text and the most found type of reference is anaphora.
