This research was intended to find out whether the information gap technique gives effect toward students’ speaking achievement in the tenth grade of Vocational High School 3 Samarinda in academic year 2018/2019. This research was a pre-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest research design. The sample of this study was X Hotel Accommodation 2 (X Perhotelan 2) with 33 students. To collect the data, the researcher used a speaking test. To analyse the data, the researcher used the mean scores and t-test to find the students’ speaking achievement before using treatment and after using treatment, and also to find whether the result is significant or not. The result of this study showed that there is a gain of score between tests from before and after using information gap technique toward students’ speaking achievement in the tenth-grade students of Vocational High School 3 Samarinda.

In conclusion, this research found that the pre-test scores of the students before taught using information gap technique was 60 or C in Fair Category. The post-test scores of the students after taught using information gap technique was 74 or D in Good Category. After analysing the two mean score of pre-test and posttest using t-test, the t score was 9.779. The degree of freedom of the sample was 32 in 5% (0.05) level of significance and the t Table was 2.0369. The data analysis indicated that the t score is higher than t table at 5% significant or 9.779>2.0369. Based on the result of the calculation of t-test, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (H 1 ) was accepted while the null hypothesis (H 0 ) was rejected. The result showed that “The use of Information Gap Technique is effective toward Students’ Speaking achievement”
