This study was aimed to investigate the teacher-student relationship adopted by one of junior high school in Samarinda. Teacher-student relationship is believed to be very important to support a conducive learning atmosphere. This study utilized a qualitative research design, This is a case study which employed classroom observation and interview to obtain the data. The research subject in this study was an English teacher in SMP 22
Samarinda. Then, the researcher analyzed data from observation and interview by using data analysis model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). The findings of this study showed that the research subject had practiced teacher-student relationship concept. It is revealed that the English teacher treated his students as his learning partner. In conclusion, it is noted that when a teacher practices a “Collegial” teacher-student relationship, his/her students will be more motivated to learn English. The result of this research can be used as a reference in evaluating the use of teacher-student relationship concept as a way to improve teaching process for schools. For the English Department students, the result of this research can be used as a reference in evaluating the use of teacher-student relationship concept as a way to improve teaching skills, thus training the students as better future teachers.
