This study aims at investigating the status, suitability, and carrying capacity of Pangempang coastal resources for marine ecotourism development. The zonation plan for Pangempang coastal zone is then proposed. Survey for this study was carried out from February to June 2017, in Pangempang coastal area, Muara Badak Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara District. Results showed that vegetation grown in Pangempang coastal area composed of mangrove forest and Baringtonia formation. Four mangrove species identified inhabiting the area were Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia alba, Sonneratia alba, and Nypa fruticans, where R. apiculata
predominated the other species. Suitability index showed that Pangempang coastal area was categorized very suitable (Station 1) for ecotourism activities. The area was proposed to be devided into three ecotourism zones namely mangrove ecotourism zone, savanna ecotourism zone, and shore ecotourism zone, with carrying capacity of each zone was 529 person/day, 562 person/day, and 2.149 person/day, respectively.
