This study aims to explain the analysis of sociolinguistic aspects of slang in “Iron Man 3”movie script. The research problems of the study are the meaning and sociolinguistic aspects of every slang word and phrase found in the “Iron Man 3” movie script. The purpose of study is to explain the meaning of slang word and phrase and explore the aspects of sociolinguistic, which have influence in forming slang words in “Iron Man 3”movie script. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. Content analysis was selected as the method of this research to
know sociolinguistic meaning or slang word or phase in the script of “Iron Man 3” movie as the source of data. The collection of data is conduced through the process of selecting and reading the script of “Iron Man 3” movie. The researcher found several findings on the study. First, the meaning of slang words and phrases from different vocabulary: Dictionary of America Slang and Colloquial Expression by Richard Spears and Inggris - Indonesia dictionary by Jhon Elhols and Hassan Sadily. Second, the aspect of Sociolinguistic which influence the slang language, there are: participants, setting, topic, and function; there are different functions found from the slang words and phrases, which are: to show intimate relationship, to illustrate social status, to intimidate enemy, to persuade, to annoy, to show anger, to show regret or passiveness, etc. In summary, this study showed that sociolinguistic aspect of slang is important and helpful in finding the right meaning of slang word or phrase, so for the next researchers who are willing to do the research in the same field, the researcher suggested to analyze the sociolinguistic aspect of slang in poetry.
