Analyzing, criticizing, appreciating are parts of Literary Appreciation and Criticism (LAC) class. There are so many approaches to get the data of one or more literary work(s), one of it is Gender Language and Radical Feminism like what the researcher use in this study.
This study discussed gender language and radical feminism reflected in Angelou‟s selected poems. There were 22 selected poems analyzed using content analysis technique within descriptive qualitative research design. It is found that that Angelou used eight characteristics of woman style; intensive adverbs, emotional references or emphasis, clear grammars or politeness, hedging, negation, simultaneous opposite, questioning and empty adjectives.
Those language characteristics reflected the radical feminism which comprised of physical abuse, verbal abuse, social isolation, sexual abuse and denying. Based on the two findings of gender language and language reflected sexual oppression; the researcher concluded that Angelou talks about radical feminism about body and reproduction. The findings of radical feminism lead into her experience of life, such as; 13 poems reflected prostitution, 4 poems reflected Sex, pregnancy and abortion and 5 poems reflected Domestic Violation.
