Translation is a work of conveying; understanding the context one language into another language or in this case will be English into BahasaIndonesia. It is not as easy as most people think. There are some aspects ofEnglish that we cannot translate them by using word-for-word translation.
Translation has become essentially important in both national and global level. It allows people to overcome cultural and linguistic boundaries and let us build acommunication between different cultures. In the translation field, there are somany question can be addressed for instance when the readers find a part of thetext he or she is unable to find the equivalent. The purpose this study are; 1. Toknow the problem which the students face in a translation activities. 2. To know how the students employ their strategies in their translation activity.
Design of this study was descriptive with qualitative approach consisting5 students as the samples. They were taken with purposive sampling. Interview with open-ended question was the instrument of this study. The finding of thestudy were; a) problems that were faced by the students: 1. Culture-specificconcepts, 2. Source-language concept is not lexicalized in the target language, 3. The source-language word is semantically complex, 4. The source and the targetlanguage make different distinction in meaning, 5. The target language lacks ofsuperordinate, 6. The target language lacks a specific term, 7. Difference inphysical or interpersonal perspective, 8. Differences in expressive meaning, 9.Differences in form, 10. Differences in frequency and purpose of using specific forms, 11. The use of loan words in the source text. b) the translation strategiesthat were employed by the students to solve the problem: Amplification,Borrowing, Calque, Description, Discursive creation, Established equivalent,
Modulation and Reduction.
