The purposes of this study were: (1) To know parental involvement of the EFL
students of KUMON at Ahmad Yani Street Samarinda 2017, (2) To know motivation
of the EFL students of KUMON at Ahmad Yani Street Samarinda to learn English
2017, (3) To know whether there was a correlation between parental involvement and
motivation of the EFL students of KUMON at Ahmad Yani Street Samarinda to learn
English 2017. This study was conducted at a course place, called KUMON at Ahmad
Yani Street Samarinda. The design of this study was correlational. The population
was 55 students and the researcher took 30 students as sample used proportionate
stratified sampling. There were two datas in this study, namely data on parental
involvement and data on motivation. Both datas were required from questionnaires.
To analyze the datas the researcher used Spearman Rank Correlation to find the
correlation between parental involvement and motivation, and to see whether the
hypothesis of this study was accepted or rejected. The result of this study found that
there was a significant correlation between parental involvement and motivation of
the EFL students of KUMON at Ahmad Yani Street Samarinda to learn English 2017.
Statistical analysis by used Spearman rank correlation, the correlation coefficient, r

0,680 with N = 30, that ρ = 0,000 smaller than 0,05 (level of significance 5%). So the
alternative hypothesis was accepted and a null hypothesis was rejected. So there
seemed to be a significant correlation between parental involvement and motivation
of the EFL students of KUMON at Ahmad Yani Street Samarinda to learn English
2017.
