The Effect of Using Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) Technique to Reading Ability of the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 45 Samarinda in academic year 2015 - 2016

This research was conducted based on the assumption that a certain method can procedure good result in teaching learning process, especially inteaching reading. the researcher choose STAD technique as one of thetechniques in Cooperative Learning to increase the students achievement inreading. STAD Technique was chosen because it can develop teamwork andcooperative learning skills of all students. Besides, it can also develop studentsknowledge in depth through group work.
The purposes of this study were to find (1) the score student beforegiven STAD technique (2) the student score after given STAD technique (3)significant different of reading ability by the students before and after givenSTAD technique.
Design of this study was experimental design with pretest, treatment,and posttest. The test was in form multiple choices which was used to know thestudent reading achievement. In analyzing the data, the researcher used paired ttest formula to measure significant study before and after giving treatmentSTAD.
The finding of the study showed that the mean score students beforegiven STAD technique was 50 (poor) and the mean score of students aftergiven STAD technique 70 (good). The analysis using paired sample t testindicated that 4,893 and 2,045. Based on the computation, HOwas rejected and HA was accepted. It can be concluded that STAD techniquecould increase students reading ability.
